On July 4, 1776, the 13 colonies claimed their independence from England, an event which eventually led to the formation of the United States. Each year on the fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, Americans celebrate this historic event.
Another important historical event occurred 3 years prior to Independence Day in the U.S. When you think of tea in American history, one event likely comes to mind: the Boston Tea Party. On a chilly December night in 1773, colonists disguised as Mohawk Indians boarded British ships and dumped 342 chests of tea into Boston Harbor. Their bold protest against unjust taxation wasn’t just about politics—it was about principle.
At The Tea Experience, we honor that revolutionary spirit every day. While we’re not tossing tea into harbors, we are reclaiming the ritual of tea drinking in our own way—by making it a daily act of self-care, connection, and celebration.
What once symbolized protest has transformed into a symbol of peace and pleasure. Whether you’re steeping a cup from our SimpliciTEA Subscription Box or sharing a pot during Afternoon Tea, you’re participating in a long legacy of making tea mean something.
So, this July (or any month!), let’s raise our cups not just in remembrance of rebellion—but in appreciation of how far we've come, and how deeply tea still connects us.
